Explore your future with Reaching Wider

Reaching Wider is a partnership of universities, schools and colleges in Wales working together to improve social mobility by widening access to all forms of higher education.

This national programme, funded by Medr, Commission for Tertiary Education and Research, aims to increase higher education participation from under-represented groups by raising educational aspirations and skills, and creating innovative study opportunities and learning pathways to higher education.

Reaching Wider Partnerships include all higher and further education institutions in Wales. We work with local authorities, employers, schools and third sector organisations to improve the education outcomes of our learners.

"Being on a university campus made me think about my future and career."

About Reaching Wider

The Reaching Wider Programme was established in 2002 as a Wales-wide, regionally focused, collaborative, long-term programme to widen access to higher education and higher-level skills.

Teachers & Advisers

Support for you

We understand the vital role that teachers and advisers play in supporting aspirational career progression and increased social mobility, especially for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who may not have access to the additional tutoring, extra-curricular activities and social capital available to their more affluent peers.

Reaching Wider supports this work by offering a number of continued professional development events and resources for teachers and advisers, and a range of information resources and events for parents and carers.

Parents & Guardians

Reaching Wider are here to provide you with information about higher education to help support your child’s future choices.

Higher Education explained

Higher Education is the next step in education after students have completed their BTEC, A-levels or equivalent qualification at College or Sixth Form. You can study a Higher Education course at a university, a college or as part of a higher or degree level apprenticeship.
