Our offer for young people

Our offer for young people and schools

We offer high quality provision to support all learners. Our progressive, sustained and evaluated programme delivers unique learning, skills-building opportunities and experiences of higher education. Enabling learners to make informed decisions and opening pathways into further and higher education. Throughout our programmes, young people will have opportunities to:

  • gain knowledge, skills and understanding about higher education.
  • explore self, consider opportunities, and widen their horizons.

Programmes compliment school provision and are delivered in partnership with schools, further education colleges, higher education institutions and other key partners where appropriate.

What is Reaching Wider?

The Reaching Wider programme aims to increase access to higher education, retention and success from priority groups and communities in Wales by raising educational aspirations and skills, and creating innovative study opportunities and learning pathways into higher education. This is achieved through the five priorities of our national offer:

1

Supporting transition

to increase confidence, progression, lifelong learning and success.

2

Supporting educational aspiration-raising

to increase motivation, retention and progression.

3

Enhancing educational skills

to enable leaners to fulfil their academic potential and be prepared for further and/or higher education.

4

Promoting vocational and employability skills

to encourage upskilling, career aspirations, including access to apprenticeships and the professions.

5

Promoting equality of opportunity and inclusive approaches

for care experienced people, carers and people with disabilities.

Support

We provide information, advice and guidance on further and higher education, training and graduate employability and many of our programmes contribute to the Curriculum for Wales six areas of learning and experience.

The four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales: creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, personal effectiveness and planning and organisation can be met through the five priorities of Reaching Wider’s National Offer.
