About Reaching Wider

The Reaching Wider Programme was established in 2002 as a Wales-wide, regionally focused, collaborative, long-term programme to widen access to higher education and higher-level skills.

This national programme, funded by Medr, Commission for Tertiary Education and Research, aims to increase higher education participation from under-represented groups by raising educational aspirations and skills, and creating innovative study opportunities and learning pathways to higher education.

Our Objectives

1

Know

Develop students’ knowledge and awareness of the benefits of (higher) education and graduate employment, and in doing so foster ambition.

2

Choose

Develop students’ capacity to make informed choices and meaningful decisions in order to navigate key transition points throughout compulsory education, into post-compulsory education and through to employment.

3

Become

Develop students’ confidence and resilience to negotiate the challenges of school, college, university life and graduate progression.

4

Practice

Develop students’ study skills and capacity for academic attainment and successful graduate progression.

5

Understand

Develop students’ understanding by contextualising subject knowledge.
